Shoulder to shoulder we march, Forth with the enemy we charge, Earth blackened, muddy, sodden, Marred with blood of the fallen, Bodies twisted, broken and fractured, Colour of the moon faces shattered, Black eyes hollow of lost fight, Sweaty palms, hands tense, tight, Heart beat quickens, Chest tightens, Bullets take flight, Comrades fall to my left, to my right, Dark is my blood a torrential tide, Frozen in time eyes blinkered wide, Gasp exhaled to my knees fallen, Hear angel’s my name they are calling, Hollow hope lost, To my bloody bed, my cross……
And the poppy doth grow, Stretching ever skyward, Silent screams of the dead, Remind us the sacrifices shed, Tears of crimson red, An omen dare we forget, Fallen soldier I salute thee, Your sacrifice so I may walk free.

Salute fallen soldiers? Why? Except for conscripts, they chose to join the army. Their "sacrifice"? They were sacrificed to the sick stupidity of patriotism.
