Personally I find them horrible to look at. When I see a huge lump of lard tottering down the street, I try not to imagine the hideousness of their nakedness. But the images keep coming back to me...

bearing in mind that some of your members may be obese, have you not considered that your post could be offensive to some?

Obesity is when excess body fat has accumulated to the extent that it may have an adverse effect on health, leading to reduced life expectancy and/or increased health problems. Body mass index (BMI), a measurement which compares weight and height, defines people as OVERWEIGHT if their BMI is between 25 and 30, and OBESE when it is greater than 30. If you score over 35 or 40, one runs out of adjectives, but your floors may need reinforcing. Obesity increases the likelihood of various diseases, particularly heart disease, diabetes, sleep apnea, cancer and osteoarthritis. Obesity is caused by a combination of excessive food energy intake, lack of physical activity, and genetic susceptibility. In short, it's mainly greed.
I started this thread so as to have a controversial topic. I am a little plump myself (my BMI is 26). I am sure you are not obese, you are merely trying to make me feel embarrassed.

Daphne, I know what obesity is... your response is in fact quite patronising !!
And yes, I AM obese. Why would I say I am if I'm not?

Why are you obese? (Not that I actually believe it yet, I think you're just trying to make me feel guilty for starting this marginally un-PC thread.)

did you forget what you wrote above....
''Obesity is caused by a combination of excessive food energy intake, lack of physical activity, and genetic susceptibility. In short, it's mainly greed.''
So there's your answer !!
This morning I hit the 16 stone mark... (the heaviest I have ever been) decide for yourself if I'm obese or not...?

It depends on your height. If you are under 5 foot, then I am impressed. In actual fact, I believe the BMI scale is totally unrealistic. a BMI of 30 may well be technically what they call clinically obese, but my original posting referred to the grotesques one sees waddling around the streets (both male and female), well over 20 stone and breathing dangerously loudly. You often see them hanging round McDonald's, waiting for a table in the front window so as to gain maximum attention.
